Video: Toyota Supra Takes on BMW M2 Competition Once Again

It looks like the Internet has a new favorite couple these days. The Toyota Supra and the BMW M2 Competition have been forming a couple for quite some time now with a number of magazines testing the two at the same time. It also looks like the Supra and the M2 are perfect rivals even though, on paper at least, they should be quite different. The BMW Z4 M40i has apparently quietly retired into the shadows.

In this latest episode of the Supra vs M2 saga, we get to see the guys from CarMag in South Africa putting them to the test in a drag race. Nothing we haven’t seen before, to be honest, but this time, the race is closer than ever. Looking at the specs, you’d find it hard to believe that the Supra could keep up with the BMW. After all, there’s a 70 HP difference between them, not to mention the torque and gearbox.

However, the reason why the Supra is capable of beating the Z4 and keeping up with the M2 Competition is that the Japanese are likely understating their horsepower figures. Taking a look at the footage below you’ll soon realize that there might be more than 335 HP under the hood.

The launch of the Toyota Supra is a lot better and that’s understandable as the B58 engine is supposed to have less power. The BMW M2 struggles a bit off the line as the S55 unit has more torque down low and putting it down through the rear axle is a bit trickier. Once they get going though, the better numbers of the BMW M2 Competition’s engine and the faster 7-speed DCT gearbox make it a winner.

Let’s take a look at the video below to see how the two fared against each other.
