MINI John Cooper Works GP Spotted Camo Free Ahead of Reveal

Next year we’ll get to drive the most powerful MINI hatch ever made: the MINI John Cooper Works GP. Teased more than a year ago for the first time, the new GP model will follow in the footsteps of the cars that came before it and has a couple of tricks up its sleeves. Before we get to see official photos of it though, a couple of shots with the car undisguised have already been posted online.

They come courtesy of Shmee’s Facebook page and show the car without camo with some really aggressive aero on the outside. That’s something we expected, to be honest, as spy videos taken before showed the car wearing a lot of the stuff the Concept brought along. You can notice the massive splitter up front as well as the modified wheel arches and the massive wing at the back.

All of those are meant to help out at high velocity and this thing is bound to reach them in a hurry. The MINI John Cooper Works GP will get the new 2-liter petrol 4-cylinder turbocharged engine from cars like the BMW M135i or Clubman JCW. That means it will have 306 PS at its disposal along with 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque. All of that will be sent to the front wheels and put down in a hurry thanks to a smart limited slip differential.

MINI also claims the car will have model-specific suspension technology, weight-optimized construction and precisely defined aerodynamic properties. Unfortunately, only 3,000 of these mad hatches will be made so you might want to hurry up if you want one.

Pricing will probably be prohibitive too but this could very well be on its way to becoming the fastest FWD car on the Nurburgring.
