SPIED: G80 BMW M3 comes out in public wearing camouflage

We’re very impatiently waiting for the official reveal of the upcoming G80 BMW M3. We’re always excited to see a new M3 but this time more so than usual. That’s because this will be an M3 of many firsts and has a bit of Boom-or-Bust potential. So when we see some new spy photos on the net (intentional 1992-speak), we’re naturally quite excited. (We don’t own the spy photos but they can be seen here)
In these photos, we can see the upcoming G80 BMW M3 on the road in a ton of camouflage. BMW isn’t giving up anything with this test mule. Though, we can tell that this is a very early-production test mule, as it doesn’t even have its own style of wheels or M-style mirrors. Still, it sports quad exhausts, so we know it’s a proper M Division product.
I mentioned that this will be an M3 of many firsts, so let’s talk about that for a bit. Under the hood, this M3 will pack the brand’s new S58 engine, making about 470 hp with a Competition model making over 500 hp. That will make this the first M3/M4 to produce over 500 hp from the factory. Even the hardcore M4 GTS only made 492 hp.
This will also be the first BMW M3 to offer all-wheel drive and it will also be the first M3 to offer two different drivetrains. There will be a rear-wheel drive model and an all-wheel drive version of the standard M3 (Competition will only be all-wheel drive). Though, there’s still some confusion as to whether or not the all-wheel drive models will have a “2WD” mode, like the new BMW M5. From our sources, the answer is no but we’ve heard some rumors stating otherwise.
So there’s a lot of intrigue surrounding this new BMW M3. It will certainly be the fastest and most capable M3 yet, while also being the first all-wheel drive M3, allowing customers in snowy climates a chance to own one. It’s also based on the new G20 3 Series, which is significantly better than the old F30 3 Series, which the current F80 M3 is based on. So the new BMW M3 should not only be faster than the car it replaces, it should be better to drive as well. We can’t wait to find out.
